Design and Sustainability – QUT



Design and Sustainability is a core unit for first year students at QUT (Queensland University of Technology), in the school of design. This unit focuses on the role and impact of designers to shift society toward sustainable ways of existing in the world. This unit introduces students to essential academic and professional skills as well as critical thinking and practices for learning to become a responsible designer.

Head tutor:
Management and coordination of the instructors’ team (12 tutors). Design of the weekly tutorial content. Tasks also included organising and running weekly meetings and moderation meetings.

Unit coordinator assistant:
Tasks included curriculum and assessments design, writing and formatting of handouts and other digital documents, management of the unit’s Facebook page, communication with students.

Guest lecturer:
Guest lecture on design as re-directive practice. Presentation of strategies towards designing responsibly in relation to environmental, cultural and economic sustainability.

Instructor:
Tasks included teaching 3 weekly tutorials, running workshops and activities, providing students with feedback on their assessments, marking.
